A Workshop to Strengthen Science Communication Skills for Early-Career Researchers at CIDIP/ICPME 2026

Researcher Paola Alvizuri will lead “Your Idea in 60 Seconds” a hands-on workshop focused on communicating research and project ideas through the elevator pitch technique

The 30th International Congress on Project Management and Engineering (CIDIP/ICPME 2026), to be held from July 7–9, 2026, at the Universitat Jaume I – School of Technology and Experimental Sciences (ESTCE) in Castellón, Spain, will open with a workshop specifically designed for master’s students, doctoral candidates, and early-career researchers.

Entitled “Your Idea in 60 Seconds: Strategies to Communicate Project Ideas and Create Opportunities” this interactive workshop will provide participants with practical tools to enhance the communication of their research and project ideas through one of the most valuable techniques in academic and professional environments: the elevator pitch.

The workshop is built around a simple yet powerful concept: many academic and professional opportunities—including international collaborations, research projects, funding opportunities, doctoral supervision, and professional networking—often begin with a conversation that lasts no more than a minute.

Participants will learn how to transform a research idea or project into a clear, concise, and persuasive message capable of communicating not only technical content, but also relevance, impact, and societal value.

The session will combine practical guidance on effective communication with hands-on exercises in developing and delivering 60-second pitches. Participants will have the opportunity to present their ideas and receive feedback from their peers in a dynamic and collaborative environment.

One of the workshop’s central messages is that while audiences may not remember every technical detail of a project, they often remember why an idea mattered and how it made them feel. For this reason, special emphasis will be placed on connecting with audiences and generating interest through authentic and impactful communication.

An Internationally Recognized Science Communicator

The workshop will be led by Paola Alvizuri, a researcher and specialist in sustainability and water management with an outstanding international profile.

An Environmental Engineer, she holds a Master’s degree in Water Technology Research and a Ph.D. in Engineering and Industrial Production from the Universitat Politècnica de València, Spain. Her research has focused on the development of sustainable water treatment technologies, membrane filtration, reverse osmosis optimization, and integrated water resource management.

She currently serves as a researcher at the Center for Research on Water, Energy, and Sustainability (CINAES) at the Universidad Católica Boliviana San Pablo, where she works on sustainable water treatment technologies, water quality assessment, and environmental sustainability projects.

Throughout her career, she has received several prestigious distinctions, including the Eureka Award for Researcher of the Year (2022 and 2024), Bolivia’s Plurinational Prize for Science, Technology and Innovation (2022), and the OWSD Early Career Development Fellowship awarded by UNESCO (2023).

Most recently, Paola Alvizuri won first place in the international competition “Short Talks, Big Impacts” organized by the Organization for Women in Science for the Developing World (OWSD). The competition brings together women scientists from around the world to communicate the impact of their research in just three minutes.

Her expertise in research, science communication, and high-impact public engagement makes this workshop a unique opportunity for young researchers to develop skills that are increasingly valued in both academic and professional settings.

With this opening activity, CIDIP/ICPME 2026 further reinforces its commitment to supporting emerging talent and fostering transferable skills that facilitate knowledge transfer, international networking, and the creation of new professional opportunities.
